For those of you unfamiliar with Gesine Bullock-Prado, she is Sandra Bullock's sister. She was also her Production Assistant in Hollywood, until she decided to move to Vermont and start up her own bakery. Her book, My Life from Scratch, A Sweet Journey of Starting Over One day at a Time, chronicles her transition from high-powered Hollywood movie life to baking and the management of her own bakery. Formerly titled Secret Confections of a Master Baker ( I LOVE this title), Gesine takes you through all her trials and tribulations of starting up a bakery, many to which I can completely relate. She has an OUTSTANDING sense of humor and writes as though she were sitting next to you, having a perfectly wonderful conservation with you. It is graphically bawdy, humorous, poignant, and endearing all at the same time. In addition to her recount of her induction into bakery life, she also offers MANY wonderful tips and recipes to help bakers of all levels, beginner to pro, cook up some tastly little morsels to enjoy. Because I'm not sure about copywriting and such, I'm not going to publish any of her recipes on this blog, but can only recommend that if you're serious about baking some seriously wonderful stuff, please check out this book!
